I lived in William Street, which was behind the Torrington, till 1955. William Street and Albert Street, which was adjacent, were flattened and are now a car park.
The Torrington has been replaced by restaurants

I had family that lived in William St. Their last name was Finch. My Great Aunt lived there until they pulled it all down. Her name was Alice Emily Finch, known as Aunty Minx

My grandparents and dad lived on William Street (Horace and Doris Keleher and their son (my dad, Bern). My grandparents lived there from about 1952 until it was flattened in the 70's. The Torrington was my grandad's local and he told me a great story of when Monty Python filmed in there and they asked him quieten down, and he told them in no uncertain terms what they could do lol. He would still use the Torrington even after moving to Bumbrae Close when William Street was flattened. I enjoyed a few pints in there with my granddad.

I seem to remember that The Torrington used to be owned by Eric Morcambe's father-in-law

I remember going to a party at the Torrington for the coronation. I was given a coach and horses as a present. I went to the junior (if not infant school) down the road at the side of the Torrington pub) We lived on and off with my great Aunts, the Kemp sisters across the road on top of Barclays bank, on Torrington Park Road at 812a. The alley had the bakers shop stables with horses and carts there, and the heavenly smell of baking was great. The horses droppings were also great for the Aunts tiny garden. I only have photos of our family on the steps of 812a and some in Torrington park itself.

My grandparents (Rob and Doris Robinson) lived in William Street with my Dad (Trev) and Auntie Anne until it was turned into a car park. Unfortunately my dad passed away last year but my Auntie still lives in North Finchley. She has fond memories of William Street and still remembers all the people mentioned in the posts here. They lived next door to the Kelehers. My dad's friend Doug lived in Percy Road which backed on to the end of William Street.
