STL 1575 photographed at a busy Victoria Bus Station in 1953 on route 134. In those days the 134 operated at its maximum length, with its final destination being Potters Bar LT Garage. Nowadays it only runs from North Finchley to Warren Street

Comments:
The STL class was a pre-war bus class that had largely been replaced by 1951 with the RT type vehicles ordered in large numbers post war by London Transport. A number of STLs, STL1575 included, were refurbished in 1947 to help out until RT deliveries were completed. These buses were retained firstly for the extra services needed for the Festival of Britain in 1951 and then for the extra services for the Queen’s Coronation in 1953. The 134 was RT operated in 1953 but extra services were added with STLs. By the end of 1953 STL1575 and the rest of the refurbished buses were disposed of mostly for scrap
