Finchley Power Station off Squires Lane
The former Vineyard was used as an electricity power plant until the site was taken over in 1980s by Pentland's main office until recently.

Power generation would have ceased at this site around the early 1960s. The lake was used to cool the power plant. The 1960s blue office building was built by the Central Electricity Generating Board for their Southern Project Group offices, where my father and his brother worked. This period was a boom time with many new power stations being constructed. Eventually the CEGB moved out, late 1970s possibly, and consolidated their regional project teams at a new office near Gloucester. The office canteen overlooked the lake and was used by father Christmas one year who rowed a boat over bringing presents for the office workers' children at their Christmas party.
