Think this is where we used to live at No 52 above the Doll hospital shop in the 60's. Next door was a Butchers on one side and sweet shop on the other.

Anyone know people that use to work there in 1965

This is Station Road, sweet shop Kennel’s was further up, just after the big houses

When I worked on the industrial estate the bottle company had a destructive fire, this would have been about 1966. They had a narrow gauge railway that tipped waste outside

I remember the a tobacconist I think at 60,there was a paraffin delivery firm at the rear, remember Sheehans TV rental, I lived at 62 on the corner of Lower Park Road. My parents owned and ran Gordons Cafe, and of course I went to Garfield. from memory we moved away in 1965 though my father kept the Cafe on till compulsory purchase. Loved my time growing uo in New Southgate

I lived on corner of the High Road & Lower park Road, My parents owned and ran Gordons Cafe. We used to play behind the advertising hoardings and there was a paraffin delivery business with ex army lorries opposite. I of course attended Garfield. We moved away around the time of compulsory purchase. Happy days.

Addition to Geoff Hardings comment, the primary purpose of the railway was to transport the glass making sand from Southgate goods yard to the factory.

In my memory, my grandfather lived at 58A High Road, above the premises on the corner (opposite corner to the cafe owned by Gordon Stacey's family). He lived there from at least the 1940s until moving into Betspath House, Lower Park Road, I guess shortly before this photograph was taken, and stayed there until he died in 1980. I was born at 15 Lower Park Road. We had lots of extended family living around Lower Park Road, High Road, Curtis Road. My immediate family moved from Lower Park Road to Brentwood, Essex, in the early 1960s, when my parents went into business for a couple of years with Bill and Edie Ridgway who had run the newsagency/tobacconist on High Road.
