Used to go there in the summer and buy cider lollies. Fabulous

W Strange was my grandfather, William. I'm not good with dates, but at the time stated (1956) my Dad (Walter) and Mum (Rita - William's daughter) and I moved in with my grandparents because they were not coping with the work involved. Not long after that we left as a group to Margate, where my dad took over a Public House - The Good Intent (Now converted into flats!)
Lovely to know someone remembers those days

Hi Allen Ansell, hope you are well. Margate is quite a nice place. We are now living in Norolk, a beautiful place to live. The only thing I wish is that I could go back and visit our old childhood memories, all gone now I'm afraid. Your grandfather was a very kind man. Nice to see your comments

Sorry I didn't see your reply, Annette. It is nice that you remember my grandad with such nice feelings about him. Thank you for sharing that. Quite made my day. I live in SW France now, with my wife of 51 years. My how time flies. Blessings to you and yours.

Annette, it is good to hear from you. As the days pass by fewer and fewer people seem to speak on these threads from the 50's. I guess we can take guess why. :( Where does your sister live? Blessings, Allen

Hi Allen, nice to hear from you. You're right there are fewer and fewer people commenting now. My sister is in a place called Jonjack (I think that's how you spell it). She has been there for 15 years, they live in a chateau, which my brother-in-law as a builder has refurbished. Hope you are well. Regards Annette

As well as I can be! INanimate objects working against me today. :) I don't know of a Jonjack, but as you say sometimes these French named towns are spelled quite oddly. We have lived here officially since 2010, but before that we holidayed so often it might as well have been home! Moved house last year to this place which is near Bergerac. We are surrounded by vineyards which are being harvested at the moment. It is a quieter pace of life than in the UK which at my age I appreciate. How about you? Your health good? Just can't beleive how many years have gone by since The Avenue, can you! Best wishes to you and yours, Allen

Hi Allen, I am well thank you. The place we live in in Norfolk is exactly the same as yours. We have fantastic neighbours, it's extremely quiet. Your house sounds fantastic, just like my sister's house in France. She has been there now for about twenty five years and loves it, wouldn't come back to England. Glad you are well, speak again soon. Regards Annette
