This photo is a weekend scene in 1964. The poster for the film Zulu on the first bus confirms the date. The exit visible is on the the north side of the garage next to the offices with the centre exit/entrance in use most of the time. Practice was for buses to enter via Hampden Road after service be refuelled, cleaned and washed. The bus wash was lined up with the centre exit. Meaning the wet buses would exit the centre and return via the south exit to be parked ready for the next day at the north exit or placed in the rear yard (Hampden Road exit). The practice was to prepare and park them in the order they were expected to leave in the morning. Parked tightly nose to tail and with just enough room to walk between. So the 244 we can see in the exit is one of the first buses out of the garage the following day.
