Number 1276-1286. The shop on the right (number 1276) is the Central Fruit Stores which opened in 1925. As early as 1787 there were two cottages on this site (Photo Percy Reboul Collection)

This picture is definitely more recent than 1970. The BSM school of motoring to the left of the Lantern restaurant was definitely in existence until the mid-1980's.
