The bus maintenance process used with RM and RT type vehicle involved the separation of chassis or running units and the body when entering the Adenham bus works. On the same day a freshly maintained vehicle exited the works with the number of the bus just entering. This photo was taken between September and October 1982 as this bus was only at Potters Bar garage for that brief time. This bus has swapped bodies 4 times in its life to 1982 but managed to retain an early body with non opening front windows, these were only on the first 300 vehicles.
Compare this with photo 6685 a lower numbered RM but with a higher numbered body with the opening front windows. RM271 entered Aldenham for the last time in October 1982 retaining the same body on exit and was scrapped in February 1989.
