High School for Girls, New Southgate in 1927, left

The High School for Girls, New Southgate, in 1927. This was situated at no.2 Friern Barnet Road, at the junction with High Road. It was renamed Betstyle School for Girls during the 1930s, and appears to have ceased being a school by 1939. The photo was probably taken in the garden/playground of the school, facing the High Road, with the boundary fence behind the group. Although this was a private girls school, there are 13 boys among them. See photo 6980 for right half of group photo. The former school building can be seen during its demolition in 1965 in photo 2927.
