I'm in that photo as a Cub along with others from Garfield School, that's the Social Hall in Grove Road where we use to meet. Our scarfs were Maroon and Green. Used to do 'bob a job week'. Worst one I had was to weed some old ladies large garden for a bob, but I did get tea and cake also. Somewhere there is a super 8mm film of our football team with the Cub Final Shield (which was huge) after we had drawn 4-4 (aet ?) with a Wood Green Cub team. Both cub packs kept the Shield for 6 months.

I was a founding member of the 92nd when it was formed in c. 1955 when I was 12 and went to Sunday School at the church. There were only a small number of us then and I started as a 2nd in the Kestrels. I think we were led by Mr Sammons (?or similar name) and also, later, Mr Druce. Loved the Summer camps. Went to Dartmoor, Ilkley Moor, Loch Lomond and Salzburg, Austria. Good memories. I have some photos of us in Dartmoor so will try to dig them out and post.

Anyone know if a hard copy of the photo is available or a high resolution digital file so that I can produce my own copy? TIA

I was also a founder member in 1955 and remember John Klipp. I was also in the Kestrels , our patrol leader was Bill Gore. Also in the kestrels with us was my friend Mick Karnon. I have a photo taken on the first few weeks I will try and find it and post it on the site. Also went to Loch Lomond and Salzburg and also Gurnsey.

Love the internet! Where else can you make contact with someone you haven't seen for over 60 years? Jim, I remember you and Mick very well. Thanks for reminding me of Bill's surname. Did you, Mick and I go to school together as well -Oakleigh Infants and/or St James or was I dreaming that? Guernsey must have been the year after I left. I'll have another look for a photo or two to post.

John. Schools, maybe, Mick & I both went to St. James but not Oakleight infants. I think I have found some more Photos, one includes you at our Patrol site in Auchengillen. Will post them shortly. Also remembered some other names. Ted Sammons (Scout name Chela). Dave Cottage, John Mablestone, Keith Miller and others. I think I have a photo of them and us taken in the gallery at the Baptist Church where we met prior to the hall being built. Good to hear from you. Keep posting !

Along with some others I'm trying to record the history of Scouting in our old District – Finchley, Friern Barnet and Golders Green. Originally just Finchley, in 1964 a number of North London Groups joined forces and the District became Finchley and Friern Barnet. Then, in 1971 Groups from Golders Green joined. From 2008, that District became part of a much bigger area covering the whole of the Borough of Barnet

I wonder if anyone may be able to help us in some way. I’m looking for material that relates to the six Friern Barnet Groups to supplement information and photos that we already have.

Of course, if you know about the Finchley and Golders Green groups we'd love to hear about them as well.

You can see some of the work that we've done so far at www.barnetscouts.com/a-history-of-scouting-in-barnet/finchley-friern-barnet-golders-green-district-history
