Friern Barnet and Finchley Photo Archive

Along with some others I'm trying to record the history of Scouting in our old District – Finchley, Friern Barnet and Golders Green. Originally just Finchley, in 1964 a number of North London Groups joined forces and the District became Finchley and Friern Barnet. Then, in 1971 Groups from Golders Green joined. From 2008, that District became part of a much bigger area covering the whole of the Borough of Barnet

I wonder if anyone may be able to help us in some way. I’m looking for material that relates to the six Friern Barnet Groups to supplement information and photos that we already have.

Of course, if you know about the Finchley and Golders Green groups we'd love to hear about them as well.

I remember Barry Steele (left hand side 3rd row from bottom, and his brother Terence - third position along. I think that Peter Heslop is at right hand, second row from bottom - second in. Try saying that at speed with your teeth in! - Good friends - good memories. We all liked the Goons🙃😵‍💫

Several of those in this photo, now all over 80, meet up for lunch at The Gate, Arkley. If you would like to make contact do it quickly as sadly our numbers declining. (94th North London 1952-56)

Hi my name is Dennis Neary i was in the scout grp in the fifties/1962 my mates name was Peter Law we worked together to get Peter a Queens scout our last leader was Fred Berg and his wife Runa was an Arkela I still see Mick Berg who was also in the 94th happy memories

I have a copy of this picture and I am in the second row next to Stan Vanner. I loved in Glenthorne Rd on Tthe ground floor and the Bishop family lived upstairs.The chap at the very top centre whose name I cannot remember I think lived in New Zealand the same as myself. I have seen Mike Moroney while here on a visit to NZ.
I recognise every single person and can name most. Our scout leader was Chela, Ted Salmon, a real gentleman.
