The playground I knew throughout WW2 was lethal. The ground surface was gravel which ingrained in your knees if you fell or in your bottom if you came off the slide too fast! Swings and the "witches hat" roundabout could knock you off your feet and the sandpit was used by dogs and small children as a loo! I loved it though.

I don't recall any serious accidents. I went on my back into the brook one day with my tricycle finishing up on top of me ....... but I just got up and carried on as we all did.
