The Turrets is now being demolished. Shame on Barnet Council. This building should have been properly listed and protected, instead of which, it was placed on a local list of 'buildings of interest which significantly add to the borough's heritage and character' So why was it allowed to get in this state? So sad!

Its such a shame that this historic building was allowed to be demolished.It could have been turned into a museum showing the history of New Southgate over the years. Now this iconic building that sits at the top of station road is no more.

My father was born in The Turrets in 1935. His parents were the landlord and landlady at the time. Unfortunately, my grandfather died 6 months after my dad was born so my grandmother had to move out. It has been an eyesore for some years but I had hoped a developer would restore it to its former glory. I didn't realise it was going to be demolished until I saw it partly knocked down as I drove past last week. Feel quite sad that a little bit of my family history has gone in the blink of an eye.
