It is so sad to think the old Pub was pulled down. I met my first proper boyfriend at the Folk Club that ran out the back on a Thursday night. We broke up only to meet again & marry 34 yrs later. Great days lost.

Throughout the 70s at The Black Bull, Thursday night was Folk Night. It cost 5/- entry each week and I saw, amongst others, Jasper Carrott, Mike Harding, Jake Thackray, Jeremy Taylor, Diz Disley, who on one occasion had Stefan Grapelli play with him.I used to sell the raffle tickets, and there were always good folk LPs to be won

Played there as the house band in late 1966. Dennis was a top bloke, and we were Chapter Three.

Used to sing there as a trio/duo called 'Bonded Boots'. This was in the early 1970s. Dennis O'Brien was the resident - a real gentleman. Sorry that it has been demolished, but I imagine most of the pubs where we used to play have long since gone. Great shame.

"David & Barrie" (I am the David), sang at The Black Bull in the late 1960s (~1967) and a female Folk singer called Heather Campbell also sang there around the same time. I believe she was on tour from New Zealand and since those heady days, I have never need able to trace her either in Whetstone or back in New Zealand. Whatever happened to Heather Campbell?

I have very fond memories of seeing Alex Campbell performing there in the mid 60's. Hell, yeah!

My parents were landlords there from 1965-1986. Peter and Iris. Remember well the folk club on a Thursday night. Met my husband, Julian, at the pub, and served behind the bar for a few years. Rugby teams used to meet there. Happy memories.

For Lorely Holt... I worked at the Black Bull pub when your father was there. I got the job because my mother knew your father from wartime - they were at one time engaged to each other - and your grandmother. As a child I often visited your grandmother in Woodside Park. I remember the jazz club on Thursdays. It was usually a hectic time at the clubs 'break' when the bar was full of people wanting a drink. Often it was late evenings for me - Tuesdays and Thursdays - and your father always took me back to my home in Barnet, often around 1am! He was very good to me but was quite upset when I decided to leave for personal reasons. Your mother was pregnant at the time and he was hoping that I would be able to work extra hours whilst he was at home with Iris... maybe you were the baby?? Was a happy time. Your father was a lovely man and my mother and Pete often went to the cinema together despite my Mum being married to my Dad. He understood as he didn't like going to the cinema with my Mum... a mutual arrangement.. My name was Carol Anderson

Hello, did anyone know the Old Ashmolean Rugby Team in the 60's and early 70's that used to meet and drink here? Dave, Chris, Richard, Herbert etc? A shame it was pulled down :(
